A city of brick, tin and board, sliding into the sea.

Cinema was the first inescapably mechanical art. But in this post-mechanical age, the traditional apparatus of cinema has all to rapidly been deemed obsolete and primitive. Yet the handing over of industrial machinery to anti-industrial users represents one of the prime creative opportunities for re-appraising and re-interpreting the nature of ourselves as transformed by the age of machines.
Post mechanical age, the humanness of the machine can be made evident. Post mechanical age, machine craft is the new hand craft. Australian diy cine experimentalists Richard Tuohy and Dianna Barrie explore the primitive apparatus of cinema and the relation between hand and machine.

DIANNA BARRIE

— [IFFR]

Dianna Barrie is an experimental filmmaker. She found her way into filmmaking as a middle ground between the pursuit of abstract music and philosophy. Together with Richard Tuohy she established Nanolab, which is a hand-processing lab for super-8 black-and-white and colour reversal film. This exploration has spread beyond individual work to the establishment of the Artist Film Workshop. In 2017 she made the film Inside the Machine with Richard Tuohy. – [IFFR]

To be watched with a Pulfrich filter over one eye! You can just use a pair of sunglasses with the frame tilted so that one eye is covered by the glasses and one eye isn’t.
