Fern Silva (né en 1982, USA/Portugal) est un artiste qui travaille principalement à partir du film 16mm. Comme point de départ pour ses expérimentations formelles cinématographiques, il emprunte diverses méthodes de réalisation : narrative, ethnographique et documentariste. Ses films, vidéos et installations ont été présentés dans de nombreux festivals, musées, galeries et cinémathèques à l’international incluant les Festivals internationaux de films de Toronto, Berlin, Locarno, Rotterdam, New York, Londres et Honk Kong, Anthology Film Archives, Gene Siskel Film Center, Cinemateca Boliviana, Museum of Art Lima, Brooklyn Academy of Music, Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, Greater New York au MOMA P.S.1, et Cinéma du Réel au Centre Georges Pompidou. Silva a organisé et programmé des projections dans divers lieux tel que Nightingale Cinema, Gallery 400, et DINCA Vision Quest. Son travail a été discouru et présenté dans plusieurs publications comme Film Comment, Artforum, Cinema Scope, Filmmaker Magazine, Millennium, et Senses of Cinema. Il a étudié l’art et le cinéma au Massachusetts College of Art et à Milton Avery Graduate School of the Arts. Il effectue une résidence artistique au sein du département Film & Arts électroniques au Bard College. Silva est basé à New York.
Fern Silva (b. 1982, USA/Portugal) is an artist who primarily works in 16mm. His films consider methods of narrative, ethnographic, and documentary filmmaking as the starting point for structural experimentation. He has created a body of film, video, and projection work that has been screened and performed at various festivals, galleries, museums and cinematheques including the Toronto, Berlin, Locarno, Rotterdam, New York, London, and Hong Kong International Film Festivals, Anthology Film Archives, Gene Siskel Film Center, Cinemateca Boliviana, Museum of Art Lima, Brooklyn Academy of Music, Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, Greater New York at MOMA P.S.1, and Cinema du Reel at the Centre Georges Pompidou. He has organized and curated screenings at venues including the Nightingale Cinema, Gallery 400, and DINCA Vision Quest. His work has been featured in publications including Film Comment, Artforum, Cinema Scope, Filmmaker Magazine, Millennium, and Senses of Cinema. He studied art and cinema at the Massachusetts College of Art and the Milton Avery Graduate School of the Arts. Des premiers voyageurs qui naviguaient à la lumière des étoiles aux astronomes actuels qui scrutent le cosmos à la recherche de planètes habitables, les explorateurs ont longtemps fait d’Hawaï le point central de leurs recherches. Aujourd’hui, alors que la lave continue de s’écouler sur l’île, une nouvelle crise éclate lorsque des scientifiques envisagent de construire le plus grand télescope du monde sur le Mauna Kea, la montagne la plus sacrée et la plus vénérée d’Hawaï.Dans son premier long métrage ardent, Fern Silva examine la myriade de rencontres au sein d’un monde insulaire. From the earliest voyagers who navigated by starlight, to present-day astronomers scanning the cosmos for habitable planets, explorers have long made Hawaii the hub for their searching. Today—as lava continues to flow on the island—another crisis mounts as scientists plan to build the world’s largest telescope on Mauna Kea, Hawaii’s most sacred and revered mountain.
