J.P. Sniadecki, professeur adjoint en radio/télévision/cinéma, est un cinéaste et anthropologue actif en Chine et aux États-Unis. Son travail explore l’expérience collective, l’ethnographie sensorielle et les possibilités du cinéma. Ses films font partie des collections permanentes du Museum of Modern Art de New York et du San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, et ont été projetés dans des festivals tels que la Berlinale, Locarno, New York, AFI, Édimbourg, Rotterdam, San Francisco, Viennale, Turin, BAFICI, RIDM, Cinéma du Réel, FICUNAM et le Festival du film indépendant de Pékin, ainsi que dans des lieux tels que la Biennale Whitney 2014, la Biennale de Shanghai 2014, le Guggenheim, le MAC de Vienne, l’UCCA de Pékin et la Biennale de Shenzhen. Coorganisateur des cycles de films itinérants « Cinema on the Edge » et « China Now », qui présentent les nouvelles productions cinématographiques chinoises, il a rédigé des articles et des interviews sur les cinéastes indépendants chinois pour Cinema Scope et contribué à des essais publiés dans Visual Anthropology Review et dans l’ouvrage collectif DV-Made China (Hawaii University Press).
