Aggregate Body is a diagonal exploration into the dreams of transparency, utopia, and the radical fetishisation of commodities that ultimately flattened the distinctions between human subject and objects in the World Exhibitions of the 19th century. Examining mimicry mechanisms as mythological lures toward the inorganic, the film sketches a zone of encounters between biology and myth, iron-and-glass constructions, and computational reason, establishing a non-linear, time-folding narrative of a rogue concrete computer that dreams of the Crystal Palace before it’s conception.

A green-screen ghost wanders through a space, reenacting a vermicular katabasis. It lurks and haunts its margins, disintegrating itself into its surroundings through an intensive corrosion. It does not act deliberately, but automatically. Progressively, in his effecting of an obfuscated routine, worms traverse its non-body, working as an index of the recapitulatory events of phylogenetic memory: a projected anamnesis or backward recapitulation of forms of life. The worm-ghost inhabits the subterranean compartments, working to delocalize itself and its surroundings, much like in a tragic plutonic descent, guiding the crossing of the threshold to an underworld: the world of spectres, the inorganic, and primitive life forms. In accounts of Negative Hallucination, the subject experiences a gap in reality, actively erasing an object of perception while unconsciously taking into account its physical extension; in other words, the object is perceived into another realm of existence.

Short film composed from images of the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin, algorithmically cut by a Lorenz attractor that vacuums each shot’s frames in recurring bursts until exhausted, with a machine-listened, synthetic reading from Gustave Flaubert’s The Temptation of Saint Anthony.

Since “cuteness” as a concept emerged in the early 20th century, its grasp on culture is becoming exponentially tighter. Tubbytronic Superdome speculates on a future which is propelled by the acceleration of cuteness, as it collapses the object-subject divide and moulds everything into its own, adorable image. By focusing on the dissolution of speech into the babbling baby-talk, the film approaches the voice as a boundary that divides the human and the non-human in hegemonic imaginaries.

The Bastard Fields is a degenerative fever-dream emerging from a slumgullion world of model-collapsed realities. It reflects our emerging neural mediascape and its adversarial hallucinations as a sublime ‘hostile architecture’.

The cast of The Bastard Fields includes an embittered bog body discussing exit strategies with a homemade robot, two creative directors cooking up some dank reality-settings among a DIY Splinternet, a mystic rabbit vlogging on the nature of rabbit holes, an outlaw preacher tending his field conventicle, and poor little Brownie is martyred 🙁 This is the clamour and humiliation of content at the end of the world.

nimiia cétïï is an audiovisual artwork that documents the interactions between an artificial neural network, recordings of early Martian language, and microscopic footage of the movements of extremophilic bacteria. Inspired by experiments in interspecies communication and aspiring to connect with a world beyond our consciousness, it casts the computer as a spirit medium – giving voice to entities that usually cannot speak – and, in turn, an alien of our creation. The Martian language was first channeled in the nineteenth century by Swiss-French medium Hélène Smith, and is now voiced by Sutela. The work seeks to make visible the impalpable lifeforms around us, honoring in particular the embodied intelligence of the gut bacterium Bacillus subtilis, itself a possible Martian, and one that lives inside us. nimiia cétiï was created in collaboration with Memo Akten and Damien Henry as part of a residency at Somerset House Studios in London.
